On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness

Author: Andrew Peterson

Series: Book 1 in the Wingfeather Saga

Genre: Children/Fiction/Fantasy

Janner has always dreamed of the world beyond – exploring, swashbuckling, seeing amazing things… there’s just one problem. He’s stuck in his village, and his village is overseen by the evil Fangs of Dang. So Janner thinks he’s going to have to be content with his life of non-freedom… until one day, when everything changes, and Janner realizes that he was born for an adventure beyond his wildest dreams.

I LOVED this book. It was absolutely crazy – Toothy Cows, Ratbadgers, the Nameless Evil (named Gnag) etc. Peet the Sock Man is a new favorite character. It was hilarious, wildly imaginative, and greatly exciting. I can’t wait to read the next two!!! There were no negative elements – the rating is for mild violence/scary images, as well as a couple ‘gross’ things like ‘snot wax candles.’ Still, it’s the sort of book you want to read aloud to someone nearby. I loved it.
